“As a group, we have been self-centered, self-absorbed, self-indulgent and all too often just plain selfish.”

Ouch. So says Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels at a recent college commencement ceremony. Not something that would normally warrant comment from us, but we’re a tad fed up with tarring entire generations with the same brush, especially one with 79 million people. Kind of like calling all the Irish drunks. And it doesn’t make them any less deserving of our help as they head for retirement, especially given all that’s happening.

“We were pampered in ways no children in human history would recognize,” Daniels said. “All our lives, it’s been all about us. We were the ‘Me Generation.’”

According to the Indianapolis Star, Daniels said he hoped the graduates would be part of a generation that would “live for others, not just yourselves. For fulfillment, not just pleasure and material gain. For tomorrow, and the Americans who will reside there, not just for today.”

Seems like he slept through that whole flower power thing …
