Health Benefits Direct Corp. has agreed to acquire Atiam Technologies L.L.P. for $3 million in cash and stock.

Health Benefits Direct sells health insurance and other products through the Web and through other channels.

Atiam, Eddystone, Pa., is a privately held company that sells the InsPro system, a Web-based administration system aimed at insurers in the life, health, disability and long term care insurance markets.

The system can help insurers with marketing insurance, processing claims and paying commissions, Health Benefits Direct says.

Health Benefits Direct now sells insurance through the Web and through a system that combines a quote engine with access to contact center agents, according to Health Benefits Direct Chairman Alvin Clemens.

The Atiam deal will help Health Benefits Direct expand its scope to include selling technology services directly to life and health insurers, Clemens says.

Health Benefits Direct hopes to complete the Atiam deal by Oct. 1.
