Despite cooling market performance for real estate investment trusts (REITs), more exchange-traded funds tracking the sector’s underlying assets have been introduced.

Barclays Global Investors (BGI) added five funds based upon FTSE NAREIT indexes:o iShares FTSE NAREIT Real Estate 50 (FTY)o iShares FTSE NAREIT Residential Index Fund (REZ)o iShares FTSE NAREIT Industrial/Office (FIO)o iShares FTSE NAREIT Retail (RTL)o iShares FTSE NAREIT Mortgage REITS (REM)

All five of the new funds carry expense ratios of 0.48 percent and are listed on the NYSE Arca. NAREIT is a trade association for real estate investment trusts (REITs) and is based in Washington, D.C.
