NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com)–Law firm Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP hired Terrance O’Malley as a member of its investment management and regulatory group, whose clients include hedge funds.

Mr. O’Malley started his legal career as an attorney in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Since then, he has worked for law firms, most recently heading the investment management practice at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP in New York.

He said Schulte Roth & Zabel has been providing regulatory advice to its clients and he will help with that, bringing a more focused approach. A pressing issue right now is for registered managers to meet the October deadline for having compliance policies and procedures in place, he added.

If the current SEC proposal to mandate registration for hedge fund managers is accepted, most of the industry will be subject to the requirement to develop compliance policies and procedures.
