WellChoice Elects Banker Chairman

NU Online News Service, May 20, 2004, 11:27 a.m. EDT – WellChoice Inc., New York, the parent of Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, has elected John McGillicuddy chairman.[@@]

McGillicuddy, 73, succeeds Philip Briggs, 76, who retired Wednesday at the WellChoice annual meeting.

McGillicuddy has been a member of the WellChoice board since 1993. He was chief executive of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Corp., New York, from 1979 to 1991 and chairman of Chemical Bank Corp., New York, from 1992 to 1993.

Dr. Michael Stocker, the president and chief executive officer of WellChoice, will continue to run the company’s day-to-day operations.
