NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com)–Michael Tumulty, a former Bear Stearns managing director, joined Merrill Lynch to head client services for global prime brokerage in the Americas.

He was named a director and will report to Howard Blechman, head of global prime brokerage at Merrill Lynch. At Bear Stearns he was responsible for prime brokerage client services. Before joining Bear Stearns in 1986, he was a client service manager at Pershing.

Mr. Tumulty will work “to shape a new client service model and lead our effort to provide a global integrated approach for delivering our prime brokerage products and services to clients,” Mr. Blechman said in a statement. “Quality service will allow us to differentiate ourselves from the competition in the global prime brokerage marketplace,” he added.

New Research Chief at Voyager

Voyager Management LLC, a Santa Monica, California-based fund of funds manager, hired Eric Gerow as director of research. He comes from Columbia Investment Management Company, where he worked as senior associate for marketable securities.

Prior to Columbia, he was at Lehman Brothers’ private client services division and at J.P. Morgan’s private client group. He starts at Voyager Oct. 1.

“Mr. Gerow will bolster the coverage of our industry and provide a greater depth of analysis for our existing investments. He will also allow us to begin our expansion into other investment products,” Voyager Principals Chris Knight and Lyle Poncher said in a statement. The firm manages US$125 million in assets.

New Marketer at Australian Manager

Melanie Caffrey joined Select Asset Management of Australia as head of sales and marketing. She comes from Aspect Capital Ltd., a European fund manager with US$2.2 billion in assets in a partnership with Select. Select launched the Australia-domiciled feeder for Aspect’s multi-strategy fund this August, and Ms. Caffrey will spearhead that launch
