NU Online News Service, June 28, 9:45 a.m. – The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Denver, is offering a free brochure, “Your Rights As A Financial Planning Client” to help educate consumers about what it says consumers deserve when working with a financial planner.

The brochure is available at http://www.cfp.net

The brochure outlines seven basic “rights” a consumer working with a financial planner should expect and explains how a client can determine whether the planner is meeting the client’s best interests, the board says.

Some of the rights covered in the brochure include a client’s right to: a planner who is professional and competent and who acts with integrity; privacy within the professional relationship; fair treatment by the planner; and objective advice that puts the client’s interests first. Also included in the brochure is contact information for consumers looking for a financial planner in their area or seeking to lodge a complaint against a planner or advisor.

The brochure contains a checklist to help clients assess the level of services and type of treatment offered.
