What You Need to Know

  • After Friday's problems, some customers reported trouble using the mobile on Monday.
  • A PNC spokesperson said later the bank was unaware of ongoing access issues.

PNC Bank customers reported problems trying to access the institution’s mobile app Friday and the bank said its tech team was working on a remedy. At least some customers reported mobile access trouble on Monday.

Truist, meanwhile, experienced online banking and login troubles Friday that it appeared to resolve that day.

Outage monitoring site Downdetector received over 1,100 problem reports on PNC by roughly 10:15 a.m. Friday, with most related to mobile banking and login. Some reports indicated problems with online login as well, but PNC said the access problem related to mobile banking only.

“Good morning! Some customers are experiencing access issues with mobile banking at this time. Our technical teams are engaged and working to restore access as soon as possible. Online banking is currently available. Thanks for your patience,” the PNC Bank Help account on X, formerly Twitter, posted at 9:43 a.m.

Customers posted complaints on X, including one who wrote: “pnc’s app being down is gonna make me go insane actually.”

“@PNCBank_Help do you know when mobile access will be restored? Unfortunately Zelle is only available through the app and I need to pay for childcare today,” another posted.

Downdetector showed virtually no problem reports at 3:20 EST on Monday, but user posts there and on Twitter indicated some customers were encountering mobile app trouble, had had issues over the weekend, or both.

“@PNCBank_Help still can’t access mobile app. Been down since Friday,” one X user posted.

In response to another user asking if the app was down Monday, the bank’s X help account wrote around 3 p.m.: ”Hi! Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us today. Please know that our technical teams are working hard to restore access as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, you can access your account through: http://pnc.co/3Vj0HYL. We truly appreciate your patience.”

A PNC spokesperson emailed the following comment to ThinkAdvisor a bit later Monday: “Over the weekend, our mobile banking service experienced several interruptions related to a planned change, that may have interfered with our customers’ ability to bank with us using our mobile app.

“Our teams worked diligently to resolve the issue, and we are not aware of ongoing access issues at this time.”

PNC offers retail banking and asset management across the U.S. and had $562 billion in assets at year-end 2023.

Its asset management groups provides private banking services for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families and custom investment and advisory solutions for institutional clients.

The bank calls irself one of the largest U.S. wealth managers and multifamily office providers.

Its retail banking operation includes wealth advisory and brokerage services.

Downdetector problem reports on Truist surpassed 860 about 10:20 a.m. Friday and sat at a bit more than 500 shortly before noon.

“We are experiencing intermittent issues with some of our mobile/online banking solutions. We’re sorry for the inconvenience & are working to resolve this quickly,” the @TruistNews X account posted around that time.
