The average U.S. household spends $24,557 annually on bills, 35% of the $70,784 median U.S. household income and about $2,046 per month, according to a recent report from doxo, a bill pay platform.

Some big cities pay much more than that and others considerably less.

The report compares household bill pay behavior across the 50 U.S. cities with the largest number of households, by Census Bureau numbers.

The research provides a detailed look into average spending on the 10 most common household bills: mortgage; rent; auto loan; utilities; auto insurance; cable, internet and phone; health insurance (consumer-paid portion); mobile phone; alarm and security; and life insurance.
