Derek Jeter Joins Rockefeller’s Board

The former New York Yankees shortstop and current Miami Marlins CEO becomes the 10th member of the firm’s board of directors.

Former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has joined the Rockefeller Capital Management board of directors, the firm announced Wednesday.

Jeter, currently serving as Miami Marlins CEO, has been serving as a special advisor to Gregory Fleming, Rockefeller CEO and president. Jeter is slated to be inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in July.

Jeter has become the 10th member of the Rockefeller board, which Fleming is also a member of.

Other board members include Rockefeller family members David Rockefeller Jr. and Peter M. O’Neill; John J. Brennan, chairman emeritus and senior advisor of Vanguard; Andrea Jung, CEO of Grameen America; Brian Kaufmann, head of private investments at Viking Global Investors; Lord Paul Myners, an ex-U.K. government minister; Shelly Lazarus, chairwoman emeritus of Ogilvy & Mather; and Marty Mannion, ex-managing director and senior advisor at Summit Partners.

“We are very pleased to have Derek join the Rockefeller Capital Management Board,” Fleming said in a statement. “His exemplary leadership of the Miami Marlins, including his ability to attract world class talent and build a first-class organization will be invaluable as he advises and counsels us at Rockefeller.”

In addition to Jeter’s experience as a CEO, his “work as a philanthropist over many years and his tireless commitment to excellence and integrity in all that he does will make him an integral part” of the Rockefeller board leadership, Fleming added.

“I have long respected what Greg and his team have built, and, as a client, deeply understand the value of the financial advice and strategic counsel Rockefeller provides,” Jeter said in the announcement. “I look forward to expanding my relationship with the firm and bringing my perspective” to the board.

Rockefeller continues to grow and recently added a 50th advisory team to its Private Wealth Management network: San Antonio-based RIA Adapt Partners, which has about $630 million in assets under management and joined Rockefeller from UBS.

Adapt was the ninth team to join Rockefeller in 2021 and underscored the firm’s growth since it was formed in 2018 from the family office originated by John D. Rockefeller.
