LPL Advisors to Get Slack Messaging Tools

The new messaging system will make it easier for advisory team members to communicate wherever they are, LPL says.

LPL Financial is making messaging capabilities available to its more than 17,000 advisors as part of a deal with Slack, the companies said Tuesday.

The Slack channel-based messaging platform will give advisors and their teams “new tools to communicate in real time, whether working from the same office, from home or on the road,” the firms said in their joint announcement.

Slack enables teams to communicate faster than with email, and offers the ability to save conversations and “pick up right where they left off, supporting productivity and collaboration while being able to locate information quicker,” the companies noted.

Throughout LPL’s Focus conference, being held virtually this week, “we will be introducing the tool to our advisors,” an LPL spokeswoman told ThinkAdvisor. “We will then onboard advisors to the tool in waves to assure an easy onboarding experience,” she added.

The announcement represents the latest way in which LPL is using technology to shift from traditional voice communication as the primary contact channel for advisors.

In June, LPL announced it was expanding its service capabilities to include: Live chat; Call Me, enabling advisors to request a call from a service professional within its ClientWorks platform; Call You Back, in which a service professional calls back when it is the caller’s turn, so advisors don’t have to be placed on hold; and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) routing, a voice-directed feature that enables advisors to say what they need help with, then routes the caller to the most knowledgeable, first-available service professional.
