The Covid-19 pneumonia outbreak has forced the cancellation of the Intercompany Long-Term Care Insurance Conference Association Inc.’s 2020 conference.

The association had been preparing to bring 60 exhibitors and 1,200 attendees to Denver for the event, which was set to run from March 29 through April 1.

The list of top-level sponsors had included a long-term care insurance newcomer, National Guardian Life, as well as big issuers that are still in the stand-alone long-term care insurance or long-term care hybrid markets, such as Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Nationwide, New York Life Insurance Company, and OneAmerica.

The ILTCI executive committee wrote to registrants this week to say that the committee had been monitoring the Covid-19 outbreak closely.

“The situation in the host city of Denver, Colorado has worsened, including the governor of Colorado declaring a state of emergency,” the executive committee says in the email. “Unfortunately, we feel that it is impossible to proceed with the 2020 conference given the facts surrounding this pandemic. As likely goes without saying, we put the safety of our members first. Like most conferences, professional sports teams and other organizations whose members planned to meet in any material number this March, we have decided that proceeding with the conference does not justify the risk that our members could become ill. Steps taken by our members to mitigate the risk of infection have already resulted in speaker and attendee cancellations in significant numbers.”

The association board has voted unanimously to cancel the 2020 conference and is continuing to evaluate whether the meeting can be rescheduled at a later time, the executive committee says.

The committee has posted more information about the cancellation on the event website, here.
