As financial planning and investing become more and more complicated, financial advisors assume an outsize role in educating consumers about the challenges they face and helping them take the right steps.

Financial advisors are “the pathfinders through this financial maze,” in the words of Caleb Silver, Investopedia’s editor-in-chief.

This week, Investopedia announced the winners of its third annual Investopedia 100, which spotlights the advisors it considers the most engaged, influential and educational in the U.S.

“Financial literacy is more important now than ever given the challenges real people face in making smart decisions with their money,” Silver said in a statement. “Financial advisors are among the best, most trusted sources of that information.”

To determine this year’s top 100 cohort, Investopedia’s proprietary methodology awarded financial advisors it deemed to have demonstrated an industry-leading ability to reach the largest and most relevant financial and investing audience, as measured by the influence and quality of their published work, their public appearances and their online following.

Investopedia said that in making its 2019 selections, it also heavily weighted peer-to-peer nominations.
