AmeriHealth Caritas, a managed Medicaid carrier with headquarters near Philadelphia, plans to expand its current headquarters, add a campus nearby, and move its headquarters to the new campus.

Paul Tufano, the carrier’s chairman, said in a statement that one goal is to contribute to Pennsylvania’s growth and development with jobs, partnerships and investments.

“Our office expansion also aligns with our aim to be the employer of choice, by creating work environments for our associates where they’re inspired to collaborate, innovate and achieve their fullest potential,” Tufano said.

The carrier is based in Essington, Pennsylvania. It manages medical coverage for about 5.3 million people in 15 states and the District of Columbia. It also manages behavioral health services, long-term services and supports, and pharmacy benefits.

The carrier now has about 2,700 employees at Airport Business Center and in an office building nearby.

The new location — at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania — will provide AmeriHealth Caritas with about 378,000 square feet of newly constructed space, with enough space for about 2,000 employees. Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin in late 2018, with an anticipated completion date in early 2021.

AmeriHealth Caritas is also planning a complete rebuild of its current location, at Airport Business Center in Essington. The current location will be the location for several key business units and the company’s operational functions. The renovated Essington location will provide 373,000 square feet of space and will accommodate about 2,000 employees at full capacity.

Airport Business Center is owned and managed by Keystone Property Group of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

Work on the rebuild at the Airport Business Center location will begin in 2021. AmeriHealth Caritas hopes to complete the renovations by early 2022.

AmeriHealth expects both sites to offer fitness centers, a range of healthy food options, and access to hotels, public transportation and daycare resources.
