If your IT support is provided by someone who only comes in when needed, such as a student who does it as a side job or a friend who works in a similar manner, it might be time to rethink this approach. Sure, it is possible to still get great support in these types of engagements. However, the reality is this is not the best long-term approach to meeting your IT support needs. Furthermore, these arrangements also put more IT responsibilities on your to-do list because you need to ensure critical IT work—virus protection, security, software updates, etc.—is still being maintained even when the part-time support is not available.
