This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Vanguard added Pzena Investment Management to one of its fund advisory teams and Convergent Wealth Advisors added Maurice Curran.

Also, the Securities and Excnage Commission named Rebecca Olsen and Jessica Kane to new roles in the agency’s Office of Municipal Securities; Pensionmark Retirement Group welcomed Erik Swenson as president of RPS Pensionmark, a partnering of Pensionmark with Retirement Plan Solutions; and Christian Brothers Investment Services has named John Geissinger as its new CIO.

Pzena Joins Advisory Team at Vanguard Fund

Vanguard has announced that Pzena Investment Management has become the third member of the management team for the Vanguard Selected Value Fund. Rich Pzena, Pzena’s chief executive officer and co-chief investment officer, will serve with Manoj Tandon and Eli Rabinowich as portfolio managers.

The addition of Pzena is not expected to materially change the fund’s character. Pzena already provides investment advisory services to three other Vanguard funds.

Convergent Wealth Advisors Welcomes Maurice Curran

Convergent Wealth Advisors announced that it has hired Maurice “Mo” Curran as director in its Manhattan office. In this role, he will focus on building and fostering relationships, as well as actively engaging and supporting referral networks in the development of high-net-worth clients.

Curran’s previous business development experience includes positions at Gerson Lehrman Group and Credit Suisse Asset Management.

SEC Names Olsen, Kane to Office of Municipal Securities Roles

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Rebecca J. Olsen has been named chief counsel and Jessica S. Kane has been named deputy director in its Office of Municipal Securities. 

Olsen joined the Office of Municipal Securities in 2013, previously, she spent more than 10 years at Ballard Spahr LLP, where she practiced primarily in the municipal securities area. In her new role, Olsen will oversee analysis of legal issues that arise in the Office of Municipal Securities, including review of Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) rulemaking and analysis of disclosure policy issues.

For the past year, Kane has served as senior special counsel to the director in the Office of Municipal Securities where she has played a leading role on the municipal advisor registration rulemaking project and other municipal securities initiatives. 

In her new role, Kane will play a leading role in overseeing all aspects of the Office of Municipal Securities, including implementation and operation of the municipal advisor registration regime, oversight of MSRB rulemaking, municipal market structure initiatives, disclosure policy, and coordination on municipal enforcement matters. Pensionmark Welcomes New Partner Firm

Pensionmark Retirement Group announced that Erik Swenson, president of Retirement Plan Solutions, has affiliated with Pensionmark to create RPS Pensionmark in Milwaukee.

Swenson has 34 years of experience in the financial industry in Wisconsin. His experience focuses on providing investment advisory services to 401(k) and other corporate retirement plans, 401(k) education to employees and wealth management services to private clients.

Christian Brothers Investment Services Names Geissinger CIO

Christian Brothers Investment Services has announced that it has named John Geissinger chief investment officer. Geissinger succeeds Frank Haines, who retired last August, and will be responsible for the development of overall investment policy and direction. In addition, he will be responsible for developing asset allocation models and risk management parameters for  participants, supervising the organization’s manager-of-managers function and collaborating in the development of new products.

Geissinger has more than 30 years of portfolio and risk management experience, with cross-functional expertise in fixed income and equity markets, hedge funds and private equity funds. Most recently, he was a partner with Hewitt EnnisKnupp. Prior to that, he held CIO roles with the North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office; Natsource, LLC; and Bear Stearns Asset Management.
