For the ‘pump and dump’ scheme, unsavory brokers manned phone banks to hook suckers. But the boiler rooms of the past now rely on server farms to churn out spam email and even make pitches via social media. The technological revolution, however, has made it easier to avoid becoming a victim through email filters and the ease of dragging emails that sound too good to be true to the email trash bin.
