In a recent study, Israeli researchers spoke to some 6,000 men and 3,000 women and questioned them about their feelings of overall workplace stress and satisfaction to see how burned out the respondents felt. On an average follow-up of 3.5 years, the researchers found that the people they spoke to who felt burned out were 1.4 times more likely to develop coronary heart disease. For those who felt especially burned out, their risk had increased by a whopping 79 percent. Given how common heart disease factors into death rates, seeing how work factors into it all provides interesting insight.
