The New York Attorney General’s office is pressing ahead in a lawsuit against JPMorgan, which alleges that the bank committed wrongdoing in the runup to the financial crisis. JPMorgan, however, is now saying that the N.Y. AG’s office might have a conflict of interest, since one of the senior lawyers in the AG’s office had also worked privately on a similar case before joining the AG’s office. Recusing lawyers from cases under such conditions is unusual, but if the N.Y. AG is facing a conflict of interest, it may have no choice.
