Alzheimer's panel to hold open meeting

The federal agency in charge of the U.S. war against dementia will be holding a public meeting.

The agency, the Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care and Services, plans to meet at 9 a.m. Jan. 14, 2013, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services building in Washington.

The meeting is open to the public, and members of the public can submit written comments and testify in person. Attendees must register for the meeting in advance to get into the HHS building.

The council will air live video of the meeting at http:/www.hhs.gov/live.

The council will talk about implementation of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease, a document the council completed in May. The plan includes a recommendation that consumers get more information about any private long-term care insurance (LTCI) programs that might be available.

The council’s long-term care (LTC) subgroup will be giving the counil an update on its activities.

The council also will hear a report from Veteran Affairs (VA) officials about VA efforts to support veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.
