Fee disclosure rules for 401(k)s took effect July 2012 to prevent providers from hiding fees. However, the rules don’t apply to proposals from retirement plan companies soliciting business.  Employers searching for the best retirement plan will inclined to ask questions about where a provider makes its money, any conflicts of interest, expense ratios across investment options and if managed accounts will be offered.
