Hurricane Sandy and the struggle to overcome destruction with innovation

Superstorm Sandy left unbelievable damage in her wake, but she also revealed just how resilient the human spirit can be. From a self-organized recovery arranged through social media and cell phones to a company that kept lower Manhattan fed when the storm was at its worst to a group of intrepid hackers that are still working to connect evacuees with available beds, the East Coast saw incredible innovation last week. The rescue efforts that are most worth telling were not led by FEMA, the Red Cross or the states themselves; but by individuals who banded together to accomplish great things.
