Doctors perform surgery on the wrong body part about 40 times a week

Going in for surgery soon? Make sure your doctor knows which body part he’s operating on. Surgeon and author Marty Makary told the Wall Street Journal that U.S. surgeons operate on the wrong body part as often as 40 times a week. Why does it happen? Makary blames a dysfunctional medical culture, where colleagues are hesitant to point out others’ mistakes.
