Why Team Romney is suddenly embracing 'RomneyCare'

For months, Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney has seemed to downplay his role in developing a health care system package for Massachusetts that has much in common with “ObamaCare.”

Now, the editors of The Week say, the Romney team seems to be suggesting that Romney’s role in developing “RomneyCare” is a reason to vote for the candidate.

The editors have sifted the Web to find about why Romney has been drawing more attention to his health care record.

One is that Romney is more likely to attract moderately liberal swing voters by warming up to the idea of health reform than he is to alienate conservative voters to cause conservative voters to stay home in November. The idea, the editors say, quoting a pollster, is that conservatives “may not love Romney, but they hate Obama more.”
