New FSI App Helps Financial Advisors Grow Their Voice

Always trying to stay on the cutting edge of technology to better our membership experience and raise the level of our advocacy, the Financial Services Institute (FSI) recently broke new ground in the industry when it launched its mobile application to facilitate real-time advocacy engagement for independent financial advisors.

Time and time again, our members – who are very tech-savvy – have told us they want to be involved and more fully engaged with our advocacy initiatives, and they’ve shown us that they are interested in doing so on a consistent basis. Our mobile application is one more way that FSI is providing its engaged membership with the tools they need to speak with one voice and influence the regulatory and legislative processes.

The app is based on the Advocacy Action Center on FSI’s website, which – as just one example – enabled FSI’s financial advisor members to send more than 5,000 letters to the White House expressing their concern in regard to the Department of Labor’s effort to redefine the term “fiduciary” for advice on IRAs last year. We wanted to develop a mobile app that could offer our members similar opportunities to get involved wherever they are and at any time. The app allows for immediate engagement on the issues that are most important to an independent financial advisor’s bottom line.

The app incorporates all the tools that are currently available through the Advocacy Action Center, as well as additional features, such as instant Calls to Action; real-time news alerts; current petitions relative to different states; complete listings of elected officials at all levels of government as well as of FSI’s 2012 advocacy priorities; and social media functions. The app allows for immediate, real-time involvement on particular issues and initiatives. We see it as providing a platform for helping our members shape their own future by engaging on critical issues on an ongoing, day-to-day basis.

FSI understands the important role that technology plays in both promoting our agenda and effectively representing the interests of our membership. We are fully committed to integrating technology into our advocacy efforts in the near future and long term. For example, we’ve designed our mobile app to be as broadly usable for our members as possible: it is native to the iPad, but is also available on all major mobile platforms (e.g., iPhone, Droid, etc.). We plan to aggressively pursue new ways to utilize technology to help our members advocate for their interests in Washington and in the states going forward, as well.
