Traveling is the daydream retirement activity that might be harder to come by now on the heels of a recession. For many, the reality is at least a few more years in the work force, but there is flexibility on where the occupation is based. Michael Botnick and his wife Susan Fabrikant packed up their Idaho home and moved to a U.S. military base in Germany. They provide therapy to soldiers returning from the front lines, and spend their time off traveling around Europe. Ruth Rosenfeld rented out her Colorado home while she worked as a technology coordinator in Guatemala. After Rosenfeld’s contract was up, she got her certification to teach English and taught in Prague and Japan. After eight years living out of the country, Rosenfeld returned to the states and was able to pay off her home.
