“If you’ve been successful on the personal branding front,” writes Amber Mac, “chances are that you’ve established yourself as an expert. Whether you blog about real estate, tweet about stocks, or pin about jewelry, social media makes it easy for anyone to shape herself or himself online.” If you haven’t yet established your brand online, it’s time to start. The first step, says Mac, is to find short intervals during your regular routine when you can manage your various online accounts. The second step is to use the right tools. These range from Namecheck (a username search program that sifts through 12 of the top services to see if your username is available) to Squarespace (a platform for personal websites that allows even the not-so-tech savvy to easily blog, display social media widgets, and show off image galleries) to HootSuite (a free social media dashboard that tracks your social media activity and engagement among the biggest social networks.)
