PPACA: TriZetto Acquires Tela Sourcing

A health insurance technology company is acquiring a health care outsourcing company.

The TriZetto Group Inc., Greenwood Village, Colo., has purchased all of the voting stock of Tela Sourcing Inc., Baltimore, a privately held company that helps health care companies send back-office work to support offices in the United States or Pune, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The price of the deal was not available, but TriZetto says Brij Sharma, the chief executive officer of Tela Sourcing, will become the head of TriZetto’s business process outsourcing operations.

Some have suggested that administrative-cost-cutting provisions in the new federal Affordable Care Act, the package that includes the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), will force health carriers to send much of their administrative work overseas.

The Affordable Care Act has definitely increased health insurers’ need for business process outsourcing, according to Mike Jenner, an executive vice president at TriZetto.
