WASHINGTON BUREAU — Members of the Senate have voted 60-38 to let H.R. 4173, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act bill, come to the floor for debate.
Sen. Max Baucus has asked the Senate to agree to make a final decision about whether to vote on H.R. 4173 at 2 p.m., then to hold a vote on the bill conference report.
Both Sens. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash, ended up voting for the motion for cloture, or a measure preventing bill opponents from using a filibuster, or endless round of debate, from bringing the bill to the floor.
