The Insured Retirement Institute, Washington, announced that it will again sponsor National Retirement Planning Week during Financial Literacy Month.
Taking place April 12-15, IRI’s planned events throughout the week are aimed at raising public awareness of the need to plan extensively for retirement.
The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, the American Council of Life Insurers and Americans for a Secure Retirement also are backing the educational effort.
“The retirement readiness crisis is due to shattered investor confidence, diminished savings, longer life spans and the declining role of Social Security and pensions,” says IRI CEO and President Cathy Weatherford in announcing the program.
National Retirement Planning Week is sponsored by the National Retirement Planning Coalition, a group of financial industry, education and advocacy organizations that have joined to raise public awareness of the need for retirement planning.
To support these education efforts, the coalition has redesigned its Web site, Retire On Your Own Terms, offering sources to both consumers and financial professionals on setting long-term financial goals.
