John Barry says he will be striking out on his own.

Barry, who helped sell Barry, Evans, Josephs & Snipes Inc., Charlotte, N.C., to Wachovia Corp., Charlotte, in 1999, says he now has bought the company name, some accounts and other assets back from Wachovia.

Barry now will operate Barry, Evans, Josephs as an independent insurance and financial services firm.

Barry's firm will focus on serving corporations and wealthy individuals.

Barry, Evans, Josephs had been operating as a Wachovia subsidiary under Barry's leadership.

"The subsidiary entity will continue to operate under a new name," Barry, Evans, Josephs says.

John Barry notes that he will continue to be a member of M Financial Group, Portland, Ore., a life insurance design and distribution company.
