A managed care company is making room at the top for a young executive.
CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, has picked David Cordani, 42, to be president of the company and chief operating officer.
H. Edward Hanway, 56, who has been chairman and chief executive, will continue to hold those titles.
Cordani, who has been president of CIGNA’s CIGNA HealthCare unit, now will be in charge of running the group disability, life and international businesses as well as the managed care business, CIGNA says.
Cordani began working for CIGNA in 1991. Before that he worked for an accounting firm.
He has a bachelor’s degree in science from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in business from the University of Hartford.
He holds the Chartered Financial Consultant and Certified Public Accountant professional designations.
Cordani is on the board of the National Association of Manufacturers, Washington, and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, Hartford.
