A WellPoint Inc. unit has added products for large employers aimed at the health care needs of the growing early retiree market.

The company’s Anthem national accounts division says the products are designed for pre-65 retirees who are not eligible for Medicare. The products provide access to medical coverage while helping to reduce employers’ overall health care costs, according to WellPoint, Indianapolis.

The products include consumer driven health plans, such as health savings accounts and health reimbursement accounts, along with traditional paid provider organizations. Anthem notes that its new plans do not require employers to purchase the product through a membership organization.

As more boomers are given the option to retire early, many are basing their decisions on whether or not they will continue to receive health coverage from their employer, observed John Langenus, president and chief executive officer of Anthem’s national accounts division. The company designed the new products to meet that need.

The products are integrated into Anthem Entirety, the company’s new product platform that provides a variety of coverage options for active, pre-65 and post-65 retirees.
