David Woods will be stepping down from his post as president of the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education Dec. 31.

Woods, 71, helped start LIFE, Arlington, Va., in 1994, to increase consumer awareness of life and health insurance.

Woods also has been chief executive officer of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Falls Church, Va. Woods gave up the NAIFA CEO job in August.

At that time, Woods said he would stay with LIFE until sometime in 2008, but he has decided to move up the timetable, LIFE says.

“This is a sad time for all of us at LIFE even though we all knew this day was coming,” LIFE Chairman Marvin Feldman says in a statement. “David has been an integral part of LIFE’s success from the beginning thanks to his tremendous energy, commitment and vision.”

Wood will stay with LIFE on a temporary basis while a LIFE search committee looks for his successor, the group says.
