Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company has introduced the Balance health insurance plan and the Essential plan.

The Essential plan is a plan for individuals that comes with a $1,750 deductible and provides first-dollar coverage for the first 3 office visits, emergency room visits and generic drugs, according to Blue Shield, San Francisco.

The Balance plan, for both individuals and families, features a choice of $1,000, $1,700 and $2,000 deductibles along with coverage for generic drugs with a $10 co-payment.

Blue Shield also has introduced generic-only versions of the company’s Active Start plans. The new versions cover only generic prescription drugs and cost 8% less than Active Start plans that also cover brand-name drugs, Blue Shield says.
