Getting and staying motivated

Last month I was in North Carolina doing my two-day training program for agents. I sporadically conduct this program throughout the country. I want to share something with you that I felt was ultimately important to the success of that program.

Envision exactly what your perfect practice and perfect life should be. (This brings us back to the Dream Boards, which I have talked about before.) This is about getting a clear understanding of where you want to be and where you want to go.

This also translates directly to your clients. As an advisor, what you are trying to help them do is realize their dreams. If we don’t understand what our dreams are and where we are going with our business and personal life, how can we help our clients envision theirs?

Recently, I went to a Web site called The Secret. It has a video that is a great motivational tool. The video is extraordinary in showing you the secret of life.

The whole focus point in helping to create your perfect practice and become the ultimate efficient advisor is really to be motivated and understand where you are going; the secret is being able to do this. I went to one of Anthony Robbins’ workshops years ago and “walked on fire,” which was an incredible experience, and recently I sent my whole staff, including my wife and my oldest child, to an Anthony Robbins workshop.

However, at this particular four-day workshop, they were trying to break through barriers that were holding them back. To symbolize this belief, they broke through boards on their first day. My staff came back from the experience incredibly motivated. They have been motivated to eat healthier and work out with a trainer, and now their attitude at work is energized.

People spend time and a lot of money to attend programs like this. They get a lot out of it because they understand that the greatest investment you can make is education, since it pays the highest dividend.

So invest time and money to keep yourself motivated and focused, and don’t just do it yourself. Take your staff; have them attend events with you.

Go to something like an Anthony Robbins workshop, buy The Secret, attend motivational sales training, or see a practice management specialist, but include your staff, your spouse, and your kids at some of these events, as well.

Get motivated, stay motivated and keep your eye on the prize, which is a perfect life.

This is the Year of the Efficient Advisor. In 2007 you need to concentrate on being efficient with time, products and your staff. I will be talking about efficiency in future columns.
