The Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare is trying to reduce insurance administration hassles for doctors.

CAQH, Washington, says more than 20 large health care organizations, including Aetna Inc., Hartford, and WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, have agreed to adopt the new CAQH standard for electronically exchanging health insurance eligibility and benefits information by March 31, 2007.

The standard, developed by the CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange, should give providers the ability to obtain benefits information from any participating health plan in 20 seconds or less, CAQH says.

CORE will be setting standards for minimum hours a system must be available as well as maximum response times, CAQH says.
