A recent Securities Industry Association (SIA) study on retirement identified a “wealth effect” that surfaced as homeowners amassed equity in their properties and perceived they had less need to save. Factors such as rising interest payments and higher energy prices may have also pushed many of your clients to back off from investing in their retirement. The SIA Retirement Study (available in the Web Extras section of www.investmentadvisor.com) found that half the net worth of many American homeowners is based on the value of their homes.
