Ernesto Triggers Florida Drug Refill Law

Health carriers in Florida are suspending their usual prescription refill rules.

Because of the state of emergency declared due to the approach of Tropical Storm Ernesto, all consumers with prescription drug coverage who have authorized refills remaining can get a 30-day refill, regardless of the date of the most recent refill, according to officials at the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

Florida law requires drug plans to allow early refills during states of emergency to help consumers prepare for the possibility that they may have to evacuate, officials say.
