Kentucky insurance and health officials say they are working to set up the state’s new ICARE health insurance pilot program for small employers.

The program is supposed to help some uninsured employers with 2 to 25 employees and some small employers with “individuals with high-cost conditions” pay for health coverage.

The $20 million budget for the 2-year program could be enough to provide subsidies for about 4,000 small employers, according to a recent report by Kentucky officials.

Organizers already have met with health insurance agents and representatives for insurers, and they are hoping to begin accepting applications as early as Nov. 1, officials say.
