North American application activity for individually underwritten life insurance declined 1.4% in November on a year-over-year basis.[@@]

The MIB Group Inc.’s Life Index showed declines in November that were half of the 2.9% fall recorded in October and the 2.8% decline in September.

North American activity was off 3.1% year to date for the last 11 months over the same period last year, notes MIB, Westwood, Mass.

Overall, U.S. application activity was off 2% for November 2005 compared to 2004 for all ages combined.

Volume declined across all 3 age groups year to year. Applications for those under age 45 was off 2.1% compared to a year earlier, while those for 45 to 59 year-olds was off 1.1% and those over 60 were down 3.7%.

Year to date, the largest drop could be seen in the under-45 age group, which was down 4.1%.

Aggregate year-to-date activity for the U.S. was 3.2% behind that of 2004 through the first 11 months of the year.
