A national health carrier is marketing high-deductible plans to more midsize Midwestern and East Coast employers.[@@]

The carrier, CIGNA HealthCare, has started selling health savings account-compatible plans to employers with 51 to 200 employees in the District of Columbia and 7 states: Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri and Virginia.

In the past, the company sold HSA-compatible plans in those markets only to employers with at least 200 employees.

Earlier this year, CIGNA HealthCare made the HSA plans available to midsize employers in New Jersey and New York.

CIGNA HealthCare notes that its updated HSA program will offer participants the ability to invest account assets in mutual funds as well as in ordinary bank savings vehicles.

CIGNA HealthCare is a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia.
