Group Health Inc., New York, is sending each of its 2 million enrollees a new membership card.[@@]

The managed care company says it is responding to identity theft concerns and new federal privacy laws by giving members identification numbers that are not based on Social Security numbers. In the past, GHI used Social Security numbers as patient ID numbers.
