NU Online News Service, Sept. 29, 2003, 1:27 p.m. EDT – The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a contract for its TriCare retail pharmacy program to Express Scripts Inc., St. Louis.

The department has a one-year contract and options to extend the contract up to four more years, Express Scripts says.

Express Scripts will provide a retail pharmacy network, claims-processing services, drug utilization and safety review services, prior authorization services and a call center.

In 2002, Express Scripts won a contract to run the TriCare mail order pharmacy program.

TriCare is a health care program that serves military personnel, dependents and retirees. About 2.5 million of the 8.7 million eligible TriCare program participants use the retail pharmacy benefit.
