NU Online News Service, Aug. 6, 2003, 4:16 p.m. EDT – AmerUs Group Company, Des Moines, Iowa, is reporting $44 million in net income for the second quarter on $458 million in revenue, up from $4.3 million in net income on $323 million in revenue for the second quarter of 2002.

Sales of fixed annuities increased to $468 million, from $403 million.

The average yield on portfolio investments fell to 5.92%, from 6.53%, but AmerUs says a reduction in the rates paid to annuity holders offset the decline in yields.
