NU Online News Service, July 16, 2003, 5:32 p.m. EDT – Consumers may be more interested in getting information about the cost of health care services than they are in getting information about the quality of hospitals and doctors, according to results of a survey released by The Dieringer Research Group, Milwaukee.

Researchers found that 50% of U.S. residents between the ages of 18 and 64 who participated in a survey about “consumer-directed health care” said comparative information about treatment options would be “extremely useful.”

Forty-one percent of the participants said information about health care costs would extremely useful.

But only 39% of the participants were as interested in getting hospital quality data, and only 32% were as interested in physician quality and satisfaction data.
