NU Online News Service, June 28, 11:15 a.m. – The New York State Insurance Department is setting up a system that will enable agents to renew their licenses through the Web.

The department has started by putting up a renewal system for the individual life insurance/accident & health insurance license, at http://www.ins.state.ny.us/secure.htm

As of Tuesday, more than 1,075 agents had already renewed their licenses through the site.

Both resident and non-resident agents can use the system, according to Terry Marchon, a New York department spokeswoman.

To enter the application system, an agent must provide a current license number and a password consisting of the agent’s Social Security number and date of birth. The password is already on file from the agent’s original application, Marchon says.

The system checks each renewal request for completeness at the time of application, saving time and money, the department says.

After agents complete the application process, those who pay by credit card will receive their licenses within 24 to 48 hours. Agents paying by check will have their licenses mailed to them after the department receives payments.
