Future Proof Partners to Stage March Event

Fans of the yearly fall Future Proof event are now getting a spring fling.

Organizers of the largely outdoor affair, held in September in Southern California for the past two years, announced that they will stage the Future Proof Retreat in March in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The first Future Proof Retreat aims to redefine “the retreat-style event model,” according to media and events organizer Advisor Circle and RIA Ritholtz Wealth Management. The venue is the 784-room Broadmoor resort.

While the Future Proof Festival drew roughly 3,000 attendees to Huntington Beach, California, this fall, the Rocky Mountain-based gathering expects to attract 500-plus executives from wealth management firms, growing financial advisors, fintech companies and others.

“We barely scratched the surface of what it can do at the Future Proof Festival earlier this year,” Ritholtz Wealth CEO Josh Brown said in a statement. “At the Future Proof Retreat, you’re not just collecting business cards — you’ll be building meaningful relationships that will define the next stage of growth for your firm.”

The spring retreat will include a tech-enabled networking program, Breakthru, which organizers introduced at the recent Future Proof Festival. The program resulted in more than 16,000 one-to-one meetings, according to organizers.

“If you’re a senior advisor or wealth management executive, the Future Proof Retreat is your go-to Q1 event for learning, networking, and growing your business,” said Matt Middleton, Advisor Circle’s CEO.

The March retreat is “smaller by design” than the beachfront festival held in September, Middleton says. Also, attendees need to apply to attend or sponsor the program.

The 40 industry partners of Future Proof Retreat so far include Altruist, Dynasty Financial Partners, FP Alpha, Franklin Templeton, Grayscale Investments, Morningstar, Nuveen, Orion Advisor Solutions and State Street Global Advisors.

“We expect it could fill up by year-end,” Middleton said in an interview. “The retreat we want to stage is one with an intimate setting at scale — the largest retreat in the industry at about 500 or 600, at most.”

The goals of Future Proof Retreat are to facilitate over 2,000 pre-scheduled 15-minute introductory meetings between financial advisors and wealth management professionals with investment managers, fintech firms and other financial services providers.

In addition, attendees can attend roundtable discussions for between five and eight attendees focused on key industry issues and action steps that can be taken after these sessions. Some 100 pre-scheduled Breakthru Talk sessions, covering 12 critical industry topics, are planned. Finally, a program with more than 35 experiences, such as networking dinners, indoor and outdoor group activities, and specialized content will be offered so guests can “develop and strengthen” business relationships.
