LPL Financial has hired its first employee advisor since it acquired 33 employee advisors with Allen & Co. and launched the channel in August.

Tiger Blackwell, CFP, has joined LPL as an independent employee advisor from Stifel Nicolaus, where he worked with about $100 million in assets. He has been in the business for 21 years, according to FINRA BrokerCheck.

“It is an honor to welcome Tiger to the LPL family and be his partner as together we change the expectations of the independent space,” according to Rich Steinmeier, who leads business development for LPL.

“LPL is committed to delivering independent solutions designed to meet the needs of advisors wherever they are in the evolution of their practice,” Steinmeier added.

Blackwell’s practice is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and his work in an office arranged by LPL. Also, he plans to add his daughter to the practice, according to a press release.

“I wanted a place where I could run a business on my terms, but I don’t want the added stress that often comes with being a business owner. I’m not interested in being human resources and accounting and compliance all on my own,” Blackwell said in a statement.

The advisor was a member of the 1991 Louisiana State University national championship baseball team.

“In baseball, Coach Bertman would say, ‘It’s all about the numbers and putting the odds in your favor,’” Blackwell explained. “That resonated with me and has become a motto for how I help clients with their financial situations.”

LPL is set to release its fourth quarter 2020 earnings late Thursday. It currently has about 17,300 affiliated advisors.
