Consumers Who Know More About Annuities May Like Them More

Consumers who know more annuities seem to have stronger feelings about them, and the increased knowledge may lead to more positive views than negative views.

Analysts at the Secure Retirement Institute have published data supporting those possibilities in a summary of results from a recent study.

The researchers who conducted the study had the participants take an annuity knowledge quiz. The researchers also asked the participants about whether they had positive or negative views about annuities.

Only 46% of the participants with scores of 0 to 3 on a 10-point scale expressed any views about annuities: 27% said they had positive views, and 19% said they had negative views.

Participants with scores of 7 or higher were much likely to have opinions about annuities.

The percentage with negative views increased to 31%, but the percentage with positive views increased even more — to 63%.
